The shop

Boardwalk roots.

Tidewater opened in 2014 in an old surf shop on Cookman Avenue, back when flash sheets still hung in half the windows on the strip. Three artists, one big table and a rule we still keep: nobody leaves with a tattoo they're not sure about.

We draw everything ourselves, we tell you the price before you sit down, and we're happy to say no to a design that won't age well.

  • Gloves and barriersFresh gloves for every client and barrier film on the chair, machines and bottles.
  • Hospital-grade disinfectantEvery surface is cleaned between clients. The station is set up fresh each time.
  • Licensed and trainedRegistered with the local health department, with bloodborne-pathogen training for every artist.

Aftercare

Look after it for the first few weeks and it will look good for decades.

Anything that looks off? Message us, we're happy to check.

  1. Day 1Leave the wrap on for the time your artist tells you, then wash gently with unscented soap and pat dry.
  2. Days 2 – 7Thin layer of the ointment we recommend, two or three times a day. Don't pick or scratch: itching is normal, a light tap helps.
  3. Weeks 2 – 3Peeling is normal. Keep it out of the sun, and no swimming, baths or tanning until it's healed.
  4. Month 1 +Healed. Sunscreen from now on keeps the color sharp for decades. Touch-ups are free within three months.
